Showbus Makes a Return Trip to IWM Duxford
Showbus, the biggest bus show in the world, makes a welcome return to Imperial War Museum Duxford on Sunday 18 September.
Showbus has been hosting bus bonanzas for nearly 40 years. In 2011, visitors can expect to see buses of all ages and descriptions arranged in colourful displays, from the very old to the very new.
Over 400 single and double-decker buses will gather at Duxford for this unusual and fun event, with buses travelling from as far afield as Ireland and Scotland and buses on display which have operated in Hong Kong and Malta.anniversary with a celebratory display.Bringing the bus world bang up to date, there will also be the opportunity to see some of the bus industry’s latest models in the Showcase mini-trade show and Enviromania, a display of the bestselling UK-built Alexander Dennis Enviro range of buses.
In addition to presenting a wide variety of displays and trade stands, Showbus will be celebrating many bus-related anniversaries.
The centenary of the Maidstone & District Motor Service will be commemorated with a special display of vintage Maidstone vehicles which will parade around the American Air Museum at 12.00pm.
Expect to see lots of nostalgic London Routemaster buses as the company celebrates 50 years since the longer Routemaster model entered service. The well-known London RF single-decker bus, which saw many years of service on Green Line commuter services, will be commemorating its 60th
As buses will be on display throughout the IWM Duxford site, ShowBus will be providing shuttle buses across the site between 11.15am and 4.15pm with a new Alexander-Dennis hybrid doubledecker.
Visitors can also enjoy a free scenic bus ride to Duxford village between 11.45am and 4.15pm, departing from a bus stop in front of the American Air Museum. Priority is given to visitors who purchase the Showbus programme at the event.
The world’s biggest bus rally brings colour, spectacle and nostalgia to Duxford with the sights and sounds of an amazing array of buses on public display. In addition, the whole museum will be open as usual.
Duxford Radio Society will be showing displays of Second World War radio equipment between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
Funday Sundays offers families the chance to get hands-on with history, with a range of craft activities, object handling sessions and the chance to meet a costumed interpreter enacting the role of a wartime character. Durings September, Funday Sundays take place in the American Air Museum between 12.00pm and 4.00pm.Join us for a spectacular day out at Showbus!
