‘KIDS GO FREE’ ON CONCORDE at BROOKLANDS MUSEUM

School Half Terms were never this good in my day!” Allan Winn, Museum Director

There’s an even better reason to take the young ones along to Brooklands Museum this October Half Term as between the 24th and 28th, children up to 16 will be able to enjoy the Brooklands Concorde Experience at no extra cost above the Museum entry fee. The only condition is a limit of three children per accompanying adult*.  On the half-hour-long Brooklands Concorde Experience, visitors are able to discover Brooklands’ leading role in the Concorde story before taking their seats for an awe-inspiring virtual flight.

Also during the week in Half Term, the Museum’s famous Vintage-style Car Rides will be running (subject to weather), taking visitors up Test Hill or on the famous Brooklands Banking, part of the first purpose-built motor racing circuit in the World.

All the usual Museum attractions will be open every day – giant racing cars, motorbikes, bicycles and aircraft such as the giant Vickers VC10 as well as historic aeroplanes in the Wellington Hangar. The new London Bus Museum is the latest addition: a purpose-built hall houses the biggest collection of historic ex-London buses in private hands. With over 30 complete buses – most of them fully restored – the collection tells the chronological story of London surface transport from the horse-drawn buses of the late 19th century through to the 1970s. The line-up includes “RT1”, the very first of the famous RT double-deckers, saved for the nation by a £150,000 public appeal, and examples of the iconic Routemaster.

The Museum’s Formula 1 simulator allows older children to get behind the wheel of a Grand Prix McLaren or the Napier-Railton and drive the famous Brooklands track to compare their performances, while for the youngsters the not-so camera-shy Bertie Bear (the Museum’s larger-than-life mascot) will be on walkabout round the Museum looking for his fans.

Other treats lined up for visitors during half term week include an engine run of the Sopwith Camel on Wednesday 26th outside the Wellington Hangar and from Wednesday 26th-Saturday 29th there will be a fun poetry workshop called ‘Wheels, Wings & Wild Words’ for family groups of children older than 6 and there’ll be a morning and afternoon session of The Big Draw on Monday and Tuesday. There is no extra charge for these activities.

The Museum is open daily from 10am – 5pm during summer time and 10am – 4pm winter time (last entry 1hr before closing time). Admission prices for Brooklands Museum (including the London Bus Museum) are: Adults £10, Seniors £9, Children (5-16 yrs) £5.50, Family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) £27.  We ask for a small donation for car rides and the ‘Concorde Experience’ is £4 for adults. The main visitor entrance for the Museum is via Mercedes-Benz World off Wellington Way between Weybridge and Byfleet.
