Stars call on people in the South East to have a Big Book Swap

This October, X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary is one of the stars appealing to people in the South east to dig out their favourite books and help raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK.

To Kill a Mockingbird is Dermot’s favourite book and he joins a host of famous faces who are urging people in the South east to take part in Bowel Cancer UK’s Big Book Swap, including comedian Frank Skinner, writer and performer Stella Duffy, musician Frank Turner and actress Jane Asher.

TV presenter Dermot O’Leary said: “It’s a cliché but To Kill a Mockingbird is my favourite book and features my greatest fictional hero of all time. It is a coming of age, moralistic tale of always doing the right thing”.

Hosting a book swap is easy. Having one at home is the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends or why not get together with work colleagues to share your favourite books? Get everyone to make a donation and then pass on the proceeds to Bowel Cancer UK.

Deborah Alsina, Chief Executive, explained: “Many of the patients and families we have helped have shared how certain books have changed their lives. They have drawn strength from them and reading has helped them stay positive during their treatment. So get a hold of your favourite book, organise a Big Book Swap in October and raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK at the same time!”

To hold a Big Book Swap any time during October, get hold of a fundraising pack now from www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk or call 020 7386 4006.
