Epilepsy Charity Launches My Purple Pledge 2011
The UK’s leading children’s epilepsy charity The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE) is today announcing a brand new way to support the 60,000 young people with the condition – by making a ‘Purple Pledge’.
The launch of the My Purple Pledge campaign to raise awareness of epilepsy in children and teenagers takes place on 26 January when the new website www.mypurplepledge.com will go live.
The NCYPE will be asking people across the country to come up with ideas on how they can get involved in exciting ‘purple’ activities to raise much needed funds for the charity – which changes the lives of children and young people with epilepsy. The campaign incorporates International Purple Day on Saturday 26 March 2011 and National Epilepsy Week from 15 May – 22 May.
My Purple Pledge will aim to inspire the public and celebrities to undertake a Purple Pledge via the www.mypurplepledge.com site. With footballer Leon Legge and companies such as Criterion Capital, Croydon Visitor Centre and Purple Turtle Football Club already supporting the My Purple Pledge, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to get involved! Whether people choose to carry out a sponsored walk, wear purple to work or school or simply to lie in a bath of Ribena, the aim is to spread awareness and to raise as much money as possible for a really important cause. The NCYPE is supported by several celebrity brand ambassadors; including Max Clifford, Nathaniel Parker and Nicholas Owen.
Lisa Farmer, Director of Fundraising at the NCYPE added, “Epilepsy is the most common serious neurological disorder in childhood, affecting around 1 child in every primary school and 5 in every secondary school. Here at the NCYPE, the special school, the college, our medical centre and residential homes provide 24-hour care for our young people who are unable to attend mainstream school or live at home with their families. We are the only place in the UK that specialises in helping young people with epilepsy.
“The aim of the My Purple Pledge Campaign is to encourage people across the nation to help us by getting involved. Please join us in any way you can. All donations are welcome of course. Money raised will be used to provide life-changing support for young people with epilepsy to help them fulfil their potential.”
“You can also make a donation via our JustGiving.com/mypurplepledge page. Please follow us on Twitter – @purplepledge“
