Over 10,000 fossils will be created in 2012… Given the choice what would you Fossilise?

That’s the question being asked of Haven holidaymakers in 2012. Their 35 parks are dotted all around the coast and each one has a Wildlife Detectives programme of activities that’s a fun way to look at nature.

Jamie Thomson entertainment experience manager says ” We got the idea as around half of our parks are located in fossil ‘hot spots’. If you look carefully you could find ammonites, molluscs and even a Pliiosaur which is the largest marine reptile that ever lived and for millions of years have been found frozen in time within the ancient rocks. We thought this would be a really exciting new activity and it will be fascinating to see what the children would like to keep forever as a memory of their holiday

There are lots of other activities to enjoy including a walk of discovery through each park. This has been put together by the Wildlife Trust and is led by one of Haven’s park rangers. Families are given a workbook and resources to help them identify birds and flowers. For the younger ones they go in search of seasonal colours. For the more adventurous why not try a walk as dusk falls switch the torches on and discover what happens at night and what creatures can be found!

For the older kids there‘s the opportunity to try out orienteering. Using a map it’s a race against time as they locate and take rubbings of fossils and other objects as they navigate their way around the course. Wildlife Detectives is just one of many of the free activities that take place on Haven parks.

UK breaks start from as little as £79 for three or four nights spring break and seven night summer holiday (24 August) from under £500 for a family of up to six based on standard accommodation. www.haven.com or call 0871 230 1900 for info
