Workshops, Cine Kids film and an interactive exhibition for families and young people over February Half-term at QUAD in Derby
QUAD in Derby is offering workshops, Cine Kids films and an exhibition for families and young people to visit over the February Half-term.
Cool Scrapbooks workshop on Thursday 16th February is a free workshop for Children and Grandparents offering a chance to create unique scrapbooks to use to collect memories. Suitable for aged five and above accompanied by grandparents of any age, Cool Scrapbooks takes place on Thursday 16th February from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Places are limited, and can be booked in advance through QUAD Box Office, all young people people under 12 years of age must be accompanied. The workshop is programmed as part of QUAD’s Arts4Health project.
For young people aged seven to eleven. ‘Extraordinary Inventions’ is a ‘KidsQUAD’ half term activity offering a chance to use your imagination to invent a gadget to make ‘every day’ more exciting, for example to do home work or tidy bedrooms! Create a 3-D model of your own ‘Extraordinary Invention’ over two sessions on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th February, from 10:30am to 12:30pm on each day.‘Extraordinary Inventions’ KidsQUAD half term activity costs £20 for both sessions and can be booked through QUAD Box office. Children can be left unaccompanied during the sessions.
For young people aged twelve to sixteen, QUAD will be holding Digi-sQUAD half term activities based around Digital Superheroes. The sessions offer a chance to learn how to draw and design a digital superhero using digital technologies, develop PhotoShop skills and discover new and exciting ways to create characters on the computer. Digi-sQUAD ‘Superheroes’ digital half term activity takes place on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th February, from 1:30pm until 4:00pm on each day. The cost is £30 for both sessions and can be booked through QUAD Box office. Children can be left unaccompanied during the sessions.
During half-term younger fans of technology can also catch QUAD’s exhibition v.01, an interactive digital audio visual environment which can be seen on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February. V.01 is an installation created especially for QUAD Gallery that can be manipulated by the public via a sculptural control panel, visitors are invited to create new compositions that use large scale projections and original moving image samples along with a manipulated soundtrack. The main exhibition will be accompanied by a number of interactive audio visual projects by leaders in the field of digital media including; Angelo Plessas, Stanza, Han Hoogerbrugge, Seaquence, and The Johnny Cash Project.
In the Cinemas, QUAD will be holding daily ‘Cine Kids’ screenings of Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (U) in which the miniature squeakers are back and stranded on a tropical island that isn’t as deserted as it first appears. Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (U) screens from Saturday 11th until Sunday 19th February. Tickets are £3.50 per person for Cine Kids Club members. Venture Photography will be offering a free Photo Shoot Opportunity to all Cine Kids customers as part of the Cine Kids screening at QUAD on Saturday 18th February from 2:00pm.
