Children With Disabilities

Attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard have joined forces with ‘Aiming High for Disabled Children’ to offer fantastic, FREE February Fun Days for local families with children and young adults (5-19) with disabilities.

Action Stations, The National Museum of the Royal Navy and the Mary Rose Museum will welcome families during February with children and young adults with disabilities, to give them a taste of what the Historic Dockyard has to offer.

On each of the days, families will spend either a morning or afternoon at Action Stations taking part in the Rocket Workshop, where they will work together to design, build and launch their very own water rocket, which can fly up to and above 30 metres!

They can then choose whether to complete their day at the National Museum of the Royal Navy taking part in a Chinese New Year inspired art session led by professional artist Debbie Dodsworth, or visit the Mary Rose Museum and find out more about life in Tudor times with dressing up and object handling! Each attraction’s sessions are available on different days to give as many people as possible the chance to take part.

Aiming High for Disabled Children have provided funding for these sessions as they are committed to providing families with disabled children and young adults new and exciting opportunities. Abi Jameson from Aiming High believes that sessions like this are very important in giving families the chance to learn and have fun together, “Portsmouth has something very special to offer at the Historic Dockyard and we want children and young adults with disabilities to enjoy being a part of this, whilst also having a fantastic day out with their families”.

There are also a limited number of FREE tickets to the Historic Dockyard to give away to families who take part, so they can come back in their own time to explore the museums and historic ships for themselves.
