Education to Inspire
Education to inspire freedom and happiness in children
A talk for parents, teachers and school support staff on the infinite potential of education is being held at Guildford School of Practical Philosophy on Sunday 13 February from 10am until midday. The talk examines the philosophical principles of education that nourish and inspire teachers and children.
Free of charge to people who work in education, it is most relevant to primary education for children aged four to eleven. The talk will offer practical ideas, which can be used in every day teaching to encourage freedom and happiness in every aspect of child development.
The speaker Paul Moss is a passionate educator who has taught for about 40 years in state and independent schools and is currently the principal of St. James School, a world-wide family of schools founded on philosophical principles. He now trains teachers helping develop and assist schools worldwide.
Paul Moss said: “Over the last 30 to 40 years in education there has been enormous changes. With constant change people pick up ideas and opinions, much like picking up a bargain at the market, then they try them out for a while until the next educational trend takes on.
“Using philosophy as a constant in an ever changing world, it can help teachers to identify the true principles of education whilst taking a holistic view of children and their development. Instead of looking at the structure in schools lets look at the content, the intellectual and physical education as well as the spiritual, cultural and social education children receive.”
The Guildford School of Philosophy is based at St Catherine’s School House, 26A Portsmouth Road, Guildford. Tickets are available on the door costing £5, teachers and support staff are invited to come along free of charge. For more information or to reserve a seat call 01483 457769.
