Rye Bay Scallop Festival

Seafood lovers heading for the Rye Bay Scallop Festival on 25 February can enjoy a fabulous short break at Flackley Ash Hotel.

Visitors are drawn to the popular nine-day festival in the East Sussex seaside town, where they can enjoy some of the finest quality scallops in the country.

Special events include scallop-cutting and scallop-cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and musical entertainment. A scallop race features teams pushing wheelbarrow-loads of scallops from the quay, where fishermen land their catch, to a pub in the medieval Cinque Port town.

Flackley Ash Hotel is offering a special Scallop Festival package, with a two-night break for two people for £169 per person, sharing a gallery or house room with full English breakfast on both mornings and the four course Rye Bay Scallop Festival 2012 menu on one evening. For non-residents, the four course menu is available at £28.50 per person.

“All our dishes use fresh Rye Bay scallops and include, for starters, our oven roasted scallops served in the shell with chilli, garlic and ginger butter, finished with soy sauce,“ says Emma Betteridge at Flackley Ash Hotel in Peasmarsh. “Or start with local scallop and corn chowder with spicy chorizo served with warm crusty bread.

“The mains include delicate and delectable pan seared scallops wrapped in pancetta, served on black pudding with a local baby leaf salad. Or choose tempura scallops with homemade lemon aioli and dressed rocket, served with skinny fries.”
